If you’ve been avoiding the dentist for years due to some irrational fear you just can’t get under control, relax…you’re hardly in a minority. Millions of Americans fear the dentist to such an extent that they’re rather risk the health of the mouths as a whole than make an appointment and go for a checkup. Why is this? Well, some may have had badly experienced in childhood…things were quite primitive 40 years or so ago, we’re happy to admit. Though for others the fear just comes out of nowhere and sets up roost…shifting it proved difficult to say the least.
The thing is though; if you haven’t been to a dentist in years…or haven’t even been to a practice like ours…chances are your preconceptions may be way off the mark. These days, the industry as a whole works so much differently and we like to think we’re among the nation’s best when it comes to nervous patients.
What does this mean for you? Well, in the simplest terms it’s all about moving at your own pace and never having to stray too far from your comfort zone. Don’t like the idea of sitting in the big scar chair? That’s usually not a problem as an initial consultation can be performed without going near the thing. Not ready to be examined at all? Perfectly understandable – you can just go along for a chat and have a relaxed, informal discussion about the whole process. And let’s not forget that if and when the time comes that you do in fact need a little bit of work doing, you still get a say in how it happens. From sedatives to full-blown anesthetics so you won’t be aware of a single thing happening, every shred of pain and discomfort can be eliminated.
Things have moved a long way in recent years – it might be time to make that call and see for yourself!
